People might not return for another month, six months or a year but, like any business and certainly in hospitality, we rely on people knowing about us and experiencing us for themselves. ![]() Yes, we might be in Chelmsford and the middle of Essex but we're sometimes surprised that some people haven't found us. So what we would like to do is make sure that more and more people can know about us. We are still being found, even 10 years later. On a weekly basis we still have people turning up who are new and heard about us from friends or seen us on social media. ![]() Like everyone it'd help get more people to know that we exist. Why do you think people should vote for you to be named best restaurant in Essex? We're also licenced for small weddings too. It's got a nice view and so in the good weather, you can sit and enjoy your meal there. You might not think it but Essex does have some hills and that area looks out onto them. We have an outside dining room called the Courtyard which has a stunning view. Wherever people are coming from whether that's Southend, Chelmsford, Colchester or Epping you have to drive to us as we're in the countryside. People from right across Essex visit us, often driving in from afar or using a taxi. We have a lot of classic dishes interspersed with European influences. In terms of our food, I'd say we're very different compared to what's out there. It's a nice piece of fillet surrounded by mushroom duxelles and then puff pastry. In terms of main courses then the beef wellington is a popular dish. People love a bit of blue cheese as a starter. Right now we have two dishes which work well, the king prawns which come with a chilli salsa and a blue cheese souffle. Our menu can change quite a bit as we are a fresh-food restaurant that has seasonal menus. We threw that all together and that's how we got The Pig and Whistle. We had a vision for what we wanted in terms of the food, interior, service and style. My husband's background is in the airline industry and so has high customer service experience. We were looking to use a building which was previously not working as a business and convert it into a restaurant. My husband and I have been here for ten years. The Pig and Whistle Restaurant is now in the running to be named the best restaurant in Essex. Its also very popular amongst celebrities, with TOWIE stars, reality TV stars and footballers all enjoying a meal there. In fact, it's such a good venue that the restaurant's owners, Justin, 49, and Brendan Mullender, 41, got married there themselves. As well as offering a wide range of fine dining dishes, they also operate as a suitable location for weddings. The restaurant can be found in a 16th-century English public house, which is where they adopted their name as the Pig and Whistle Restaurant from. It's a highly popular establishment for people from all four corners of Essex throughout their 10 years of service in the county. This cosy countryside restaurant, on Chignal Road to the north of Chelmsford, might look like a quiet cottage but its owners promise a thrilling visit for each of their customers. The Pig and Whistle, found just outside Chelmsford, promises a luxury experience from start to finish that stretches beyond their delicious meals.
